BLOG It was suggested some time ago that we give thought to the creation of a BLOG. It is always difficult to know how to structure these things as one isn't quite sure what people might want to hear about. I thought the best way to start might be to talk about the weeks activities in the stable and our reactions to these events. If there is anything in particular that people might want discussed, they can make a suggestion via the Forum or the Contact Us button. WEEK 19 PINSEMTOIT won the week, by winning at Caulfield. She started off very slowly and mounted an amazing effort to win the race very well. It was an outstanding effort. WEEK 18 SIRIUS MISS has a fracture to her foot. This will require four weeks in the bax and then two months in the paddock. It was very disappointing. Especially what happened with PAPASAN. HADRAINS WALL won as he liked on debut at Sale. It was an impressive performance.
WEEK 17 Last week was a tough one for us. We only had the one runner in PAPASAN in a Showcase race at Ballarat. He raced very well and finished a desperately unlucky 3rd. That was fine however when we got PAPASAN home he had a bit of filling in his near fore. Sadly this was diagnosed as a tear to his tendon. This will mean that he has to go to the paddock for some rest and recuperation.
WEEK 16 Last week was a good one for us. TELECOM BOOM came out of temporary retirement at the quarantine farm to have another race for us over 2,200m at Sale. The quarantine doesn't stark until the 24th. TELECOM BOOM was very impressive to win again and this time in quite emphatic style. There is another race over 2,400m at Sandown on the 25th of June but he has to go into quarantine on the 24th. We will keep him here just in case it is delayed again. SIRIUS MISS after her interrupted run at Sale was produced on the 15th of June and produced a barnstorming run to win going away. WEEK 15 There are a few youngsters that are making the right noises. The filly to show some promise is SIRIUS MISS. She is a big strong girl and unfortunately didn’t get a run over 1,400 at Cranbourne and had to race in a 1,200 at Sale on the Friday. She went back and despite a cluttered run she came home really well to run 5th.We have also had our fair share of really bad luck. LAGO DREAMER raced and sadly he bled. This of course means he will have to go to the paddock for 3 months. Very disappointing for everyone connected with the horse. WEEK 14 The other star was TELECOM BOOM. A very handsome horse that always had much to live up to. He is big and he is everyone's favourite. Sunday was his last run for us. TELECOM BOOM now heads to Macau and will do all of his racing over there. It will be sad when he leaves us on Wednesday.
WEEK 13 MYCOLADA won again this time at Geelong. When he learns to go straight and not play up he might be a useful stayer. PAPASAN was the victim of one of those things that goes wrong from time to time. The whole stirrup leather came away from the saddle. This gave the poor jock a very uncomfortable ride. TELECOM BOOM was scheduled to go to Sale. Not sure who is running the show at Sale these days but they put the sprinklers on and must have forgotten to turn them off because the track was rated a Slow 7. TELECOM went all the way to Sale but it was pointless running in those conditions from gate 3. It has been a busy week. The Easter Yearling sales start this week end and we have been working our way through all of the lots. I can tell you there are an awful lot of really old mares and an awful lot of eighth and ninth offerings. There are few mares that will produce more than one Group 1 winner, there are also plenty of mares that have been to some very good sires for not much of a result. Pretty hard backing up for a Fastnet Rock out of a mare that that has had a few average conveyances by Danehill? I don't know about you but I value my dollars way too much. WEEK 12 - 2008 What promised to be an interesting week ended up being a damned problematic one. The handsome DELEDIO was scheduled to go around in Yarra Valley Cup on the Sunday. Sadly he bowed a tendon and 'that (as they say) was the end of that'. It was to be bitterly disappointing for his many owners and for us. If this wasn't bad enough GREAT GRETZKY lost the plot at the swimming pool and rewrote the surface of his knees. This was even more difficult to handle because GRETZKY is only a 2 year old. The horse will be OK but he will require 6 months in the paddock to let Mother Nature work her wonders. Wednesday was an incredible day. The wind reshaped the landscape. MYCOLADA was fancied at Sandown but they were only able to run two events before the meeting was abandoned. Fortunately the horses were OK but one wouldn't want too many days like that. ISTA KAREEM raced at Caulfield on the Saturday. He raced a bit like a tired horse. All in all he has done a good job this preparation. WEEK 11 - 2008 In 2009 I want someone to send me a quick email a few days before Easter to remind me that Easter is 'lock out' time. I mean, you can't buy a single thing on Easter Friday. Last week I was all yahoo to a day without racing but I forgot that it is also yahoo to everything else as well!! That's OK, we survived and everything returned to normal on Saturday. But wait! There was to be more of Easter Friday on Easter Sunday! Melbourne grinds to a complete halt on Easter Sunday. I had to buy the Easter eggs and a carton of milk at the 7-11 store! We were able to establish that the annual sculpture exhibition was open at Werribee park and we sped down the freeway to check out the action. It was good - but not as good as last year. On the way home the electrics in the car started to implode. By the time we got back to Lord Lodge the car had ground to a complete halt. There were no lights, no wipers, nothing. Was Easter fun? No! This week we have PINGUESCENT (David) and SHANGHAI DANCER racing at Moe on Tuesday. The very pretty ROYAL REIGN at Sandown on Wednesday and the handsome PAPASAN at Cranbourne on Thursday.

Week 10 - 2008 We had a new girl start this week. Steph is a tall New Zealander, full of enthusiasm and raving on about how good the New Zealand bred horses are. She has struck up a relationship with MYCOLADA. She thinks he is handsome - he is indifferent to her approaches. Our TOBOUGG colt should now be on a float from NSW to Victoria and with luck he will arrive tomorrow or Good Friday at the latest. It is always exciting when the babies start coming through the stable. Our TOBOUGG is from the family of THE BAVARIAN and the lovely E DUBAI filly we currently have in work. Shares in this bloke are available from the HORSE SHARES page of the web site. Dear little Jack was kicked on Monday. Jack is a sweet feather duster of a dog that belongs to Charlotte, another New Zealander who has been with us for about six weeks now. Jack is a Shitzou/Pomeranian cross and he bounds around the stable full of youthful exuberance. Sadly he got a bit too close to the heels of TEQUILAKOKO and she decided to give him a fright. She kicked him about twenty metres through the air and broke his leg. Thankfully she made contact with his leg and not his head or we might not be even having this conversation. EL SEGUNDO headed to Murchison this week for his first bit of recuperation. The prognosis is very good which is a great relief. The poor horse was here at Lord Lodge for six weeks after he had his stem cell treatment. I felt so sorry for him - he was bored out of his brain. His only form of physical exercise was a swim and a light walk each day. You could see how pi..ed off he was with the world. This week we have the handsome DANZIN HEART and the enigmatic TELECOM BOOM engaged. DANZIN HEART is still learning what it is all about and he was very impressive at his last start when he powered away from his rivals. Mind you he did stargaze the last bit. He is by a Queensland based sire so he might be a bit slow. (We can take pot shots at the Queenslanders because I am one). TELECOM BOOM is a very handsome horse but he has proved costly for punters. He might be a half brother to DANABAA but he does not know that. Last Saturday Colin and I went to Flemington to see THE BAVARIAN go around and to attend the ATA Bob Hoysted Plate. THE BAVARIAN went so well in his race that Colin is thinking about sending him back to Clarrie Connors who trained the horse when the EI fiasco was going on. He ran last, but not too far off them and for a horse who enjoys 2,000+ it was a terrific effort over the 1,400m. Curiously, at Flemington we also sat through a speech about Geoffrey Blamey. I always thought he was a war hero and accepted this as fact. However when we girls did the Kokoda track last October we all learned plenty about Geoffrey Blamey. It seems he was not quite as good as history would have us believe. Some of the things he expected the soldiers to do beggared belief. One of his subordinates coined them the Blamey Bloopers. Apparently the real war hero in Papua, was a fellow called Potts - who covered Blamey's bottom on many occassions. The other good thing about week 10 of the year is that we, (the racing industry) gets to have a day off. There is no racing. Yee Haaa! |
