Long time between drinks for Vassilator

Jun 06, 2020

Vassilator the 2018 Caulfield Guineas runner up to the Autumn Son, finally got his third win on the board at Flemington. It had been over 2 years since he last won, which was as a 2yo where he won 2 in row at Flemington and both over 1400m. The track appears to be his course of choice with its wide, long straight giving him plenty of time to wind up and gather in the leaders. Colin was confident he had him in a good mindset for the race as he had changed his training this time in and he was well liked in the betting paying $6.50 for the win.

"We’ve just eased up on him a bit," Colin said. "We seem to think he needs less work and he seems happier on an easier preparation."

"He’s been racing really well. I think wide barriers have cost him a bit. He hasn’t had a lot of luck.

"We’ll just keep ticking along. He can get out to mile and maybe even a little further.’’

He helped jockey Craig Williams to complete a double for the afternoon after a lean few weeks without a city winner. Hopefully Colin can find a few more suitable races at Headquarters over the winter.
