Soft debut win for Miss Softhands
Nov 29, 2012
Smart filly Miss Softhands began her career in style with a dominant win in the Xmas Raceday December 14 Maiden Plate (1100m) at Bendigo.
Miss Softhands had a gentle trial in her first public appearance but the daughter of Bel Esprit showed her real ability when she stepped out at the races for the first time.
Promising apprentice Chad Schofield partnered Miss Softhands in the $17,500 event but the debutant gave the young jockey an armchair ride after beginning well.
Miss Softhands had enough natural pace to be able to track the leaders with little effort for the first half of the race before Schofield eased her into clear running from the 500 metres.
Schofield asked Miss Softhands to quicken at the 300 metres, from which point the top prospect sprinted brilliantly to put a clear margin on her opposition.
Miss Softhands coasted to the line over the final 50 metres to score by 1-1/4 lengths to open her account with a $10,500 winner’s cheque for her owner.
The filly hails from a strong staying family with her female pedigree featuring the Cranbourne Cup winner Kattavia, Caulfield Cup winner Descarado and the New Zealand Group 3 performer Lingarton.
Congratulations to Miss Softhands’s owner and breeder - Dr P Harcourt.
