More success for Palos Verdes progeny
Oct 23, 2012
Stepping up Palos De Lago in distance has enabled Caulfield trainer Colin Little to continue a family winning streak at Kyneton.
Palos De Lago is the latest progeny of the Group 3 winner Palos Verdes to record a win. Little trained Palos Verdes to win the Group 3 Hobart Cup and N E Manion Cup among the mare’s 10 victories but he has also prospered with her progeny.
Little trained her best son El Segundo to win the 2007 Group 1 Cox Plate at Moonee Valley. Palos De Lago’s win maintained Little’s perfect record of winnings races with each one of Palos Verdes’s progeny that has passed through his stable.
El Catino and El Stupendo also won races for Little before Palos De Lago broke through at Kyneton.
Palos De Lago showed she was nearing a win with her solid fourth over a mile at Ballarat before stepping up to 1887 metres in the Sunbury Weekly Maiden Plate.
Daniel Stackhouse continued his association with Palos De Lago in the $15,000 event, making use of a smart getaway to have the chestnut in the perfect spot behind the leaders for the first 1400 metres.
Stackhouse pushed Palos De Lago out into the clear rounding the home turn before the four-year-old set out after the leader Playboy Frank.
Palos De Lago stuck to her task well in the final 150 metres, getting the upper hand on Playboy Frank before finishing her race off in decisive fashion to score by two lengths.
“That was a pleasing effort,” Little said. “She has steadily developed with time and racing.
“She might make a nice little stayer in the future. She’s going the right way.”
Palos De Lago broke her maiden at her fourth attempt, earning $9000 winner’s cheque for her efforts.
Congratulations to her owners - D W Howell, P H Brown, I G Hickey, P Murphy, Mrs C J Brown, Ms K P Brown & R M Fitzroy.
