Easy work for Text'N Hurley at Caulfield

Jul 27, 2013

Barrier issues delayed her start to racing but Text’N Hurley continued her rapid development with a dominant win in Saturday’s Richard Hogg Handicap (1400m) at Caulfield.

The Caulfield  event was the rising four-year-old’s fourth outing but trainer Colin Little explained Text’N Hurley needed to be re-educated in the barriers after sustaining an injury as a younger horse.

"She had a bit of a problem in the barriers. I think she broke her tail in the barriers and she was very iffy,” Little said.

"A chap called Gerrad Gilmour, a jumping jockey, worked to re-educate her in the barrier and did a marvellous job.

"She just couldn’t race at one stage, she was too frightened of the barriers. Gerrard took her for a long time and you can see the result.”

Text’N Hurley blitzed her rivals when coming from well back to win a Bendigo  maiden easily before successfully completing the transition to city racing in the $80,000 contest.

Apprentice Ben Knobel settled the daughter of Hard Spun midfield before easing to the outside at the 600 metres. Text’N Hurley rolled into the race rounding the home turn before drawing away late to score by a length over the Peter Moody-trained Kukla.

Little paid tribute to Knobel’s ride on Text’N Hurley, who provided a terrible result for corporate bookmakers after punters backed her from $6 into $3.40 on Thursday and Friday.

"It was a great ride from Ben. It was a beautiful ride,” Little said. "She got a long way back in her last couple of runs and we thought we could be a bit closer. He got off the fence early and all compliments to his ride.”

Little said he would not push Text’N Hurley towards a spring campaign. The Caulfield horseman said he would give the filly "one or two more” runs before putting her away with an autumn campaign in mind.

Congratulations to Text’N Hurley’s owners - Mr V C Oldfield, Mr G Barker, Mr M J Burns, Mr B J Counihan, Mr D S Costello, Dr A C Gay, Mr S F Priestly, Mr J Robinson, Mr L J Smith, Mr C J Oldfield.
