Brilliant Flemington win for Jalan Jalan
Jul 18, 2015
Trainer Colin Little had a look to make sure he had the right horse in the mounting yard before Jalan Jalan’s comfortable win at Flemington.
Little noted Jalan Jalan belied her behaviour at his Caulfield stable when she serenely walked around the mounting yard before Saturday’s Flemington Family Handicap (1200m).
“She’s very hot but walking around here before the race, she was as cool as a cucumber. She’s not like that at home,” Little said.
“I checked the brands at one stage.”
The relaxed Jalan Jalan settled back off the pace for jockey Damien Oliver before the rider niggled the two-year-old to improve approaching the 400m.
However, Little was happy to see Jalan Jalan pressured to pick up the bit before the Foreplay filly sprinted well along the inside section of the track to score a dominant three-length win.
“She was obviously off the bit a couple of furlongs out and he had to give her a nudge but that’s the way we want her to race,” Little said.
“She quickened and put them away.”
Jalan Jalan’s second win in three starts convinced Little to consider a stakes target for her in the early part of the new season.
“I think we have to keep her going,” Little said. “I was just thinking today whether the Quezette (Stakes) in a month’s time at 1100m down to Caulfield (would be suitable).
“I’m not big on taking horses all the way through winter and then expecting them to keep going into the spring but she’s a young filly, pretty tough, so we’d probably think about that race.”
Jalan Jalan's win was especially pleasing for Little after providing great stable support Gary Cranny with his first metropolitan victory.
"He's been a great client for a long time and I'm absolutely delighted for him and all of her owners," Little said.
